weekend gigs

April 12, 2010
2 gigs in Roma this weekend, with some friends coming up from Napoli to hear...my time in Italia is running short, but it certainly has been an experience! both beautiful and ugly, clean and dirty, sometimes difficult, but truly a growth experience.

“We do not have to learn any particular language to communicate with others if we can play soulful music. Soulful music is next to meditation, and it carries the beauty and fragrance of silence, the message of the inner and higher worlds.” - Sri Chinmoy

some new photos are up on the photo page, taken by my friend Tim down in Napoli/Pozzuoli. Have been recording at home, some originals and some (select) covers...2 gigs this weekend in Roma, and some new work forthcoming...
crazy in pozzuoli
-
April 6, 2010
last night was a fun and crazy night in pozzuoli. my gig was packed, and the people were (collectively) in a good mood. I intentionally did not bring my song book, so I could play what I could play from memory (besides it being one more heavy thing to take on the train) and I played FIVE hours with no breaks...(this is true, and Michael, you will either be proud of me, or think I am a moron) CD's sold out, and after, the club owner had dinner made for some of us, that was served about 3:15 am. Wine and Pasta and Friarielli, and fantastic dessert...So why am I up now, writing about it? 'Cause I wanna do it again! Hope all is well in the land of Coca-Cola...
April in Rome

April 2, 2010
...or is that Rome in April? the weather is turning fantasic...I wish you were all here to enjoy some of it with me. Quite soon, I will be taking down the euro-blog, as I have joined a movement to put musicians back behind their instruments, and NOT behind a computer keyboard... I am looking for a talented 'webmaster' to take over the health and maintenance of adamliebmusic.com, so if anyone out there is interested, please let me know. For now, let me wish everyone a wonderful April and a wonderful Spring.

March 23, 2010
Happy Easter everyone!
Getting ready for Easter- I have painted all my eggs, in the darkest possible of colours, I am hiding them away real good, so even I can't find them. I have not put them all in one basket. The basket is uncertain... Easter will be spent in Campania, in the home of my friends in Telese. Friends and the people of Italy have been taking good care of me- something I am learning I need. Hope all is well at home...Happy Birthday Uncle Noel.
St. Patricks Day

March 17, 2010
A last minute booking for me to play in an Irish Pub on St Paddys Day...typical I guess- as long as they don't start serving green pasta and green gnocchi...
I hope everyone is happy and healthy in the place they are, and in our home under the sky...

March 16, 2010
I have been recording some little bits of Music here and there in Rome. Mostly loops done with my live looping unit. I have learned a way of using it as a home recording device. This will be useful in the pre-production of the next CD. After dreaming one night about Steve Earle, (what is wrong with me?) I woke up with this in my head...you can check it out at the LISTEN page, and it is only about 40 seconds long.

i hope you all celebrate...sensibly
happy birthday rose too!
Fun at Flux
-
March 10, 2010
Last Night was quite a fun night at the Flux...I played one 90 minute solo set and had Guido join me on melodica at the end for a few songs. Not sure of what a melodica is? Neither am I; Google it. We played a few Pino Danielle songs and a few of the people there from Napoli said my accent was good! Many friends came to hear me, so thank you, and so sorry to those who came later, after I finished and the DJ had started. (although the DJ was quite good) Prosima volta... rain in rome is continuing...keeps me in a bit, and practicing.
correction!

March 6, 2010
Friends wiser than myself (and handy with google) have alerted me to the fact that Albert Einstein's birthday is not March 4th, but March 14th! My apologies to those who bought an early gift for the esteemed bicyclist, violinist and yes, physicist...plus it gives me 8 more days to understand relativity. Two days of light rain in Rome, which means more practicing for me- if you're reading this now, shouldn't you be practicing too? The lion's share of my time in Italy has past, and I am beginning to imagine my life back at home...many options to consider- and so many good ones- but my basic plan is to be happy and healthy. I may take a job as a bus driver. (although not in Rome) If anyone has any job offers, I am open to suggestions.
And a solo gig at Flux has popped up for this Sunday.

March 4, 2010
Today is Albert Einstein's birthday and I am reminded that yet another year has flown by without my understanding his original theory of relativity...shit, I can hardly work my ipod (thanks pete)...i am focusing on the music and happy at that. the next cd is mostly written (!) and I am also thinking about a low-tech production of a covers album...anyone have any suggestions for cover songs that might fit my 'eclectic and enigmatic' style and personality? Happy Birthday Albert, Precott and Maurizio...enjoy the day!

March 2, 2010
A beautiful (and warm) day in rome today. A bicycle ride along the ancient "via appia antica" a road built about 2400 years ago... when we learned in school that "all roads lead to rome" this was exactly the road they were refering to...with the lack of work for March, I have decided to re-dedicate myself to PRACTICING the GUITAR and making some headway, technique-wise. When you don't have drunk people around listening to you, the sound you hear could be sobering...anyway, a little time with the metronome could not do any harm...stay tuned...
March?
-
March 1, 2010
Happy March everyone...I thought February would last a lot longer (with the extra day, and all) but lo and behold leap-year-day has come and gone and March has begun... I guess I have been living life to the fullest (!) and missed a few weeks on the euro-blog. (a clog in the blog) or a pair of clogs...how civilised (british spelling) I may have slept a little too late for many March gigs in Rome too, so I may become a practicing-tourist for the month- and get back to gigging in April...such a slacker...will write more tommorow...

February 6, 2010
well, it isn't too exciting, because I have played a Flux before, but this time I am playing SOLO, and opening up for a DJ... (don't tell my mother)...it should be fun though, and maybe I'll learn some DJ'ing tips, in case I'll need them for a future career.
Settling In

February 5, 2010
Catching up on sleep, food shopping and tuning and re-tuning my guitar... It feels great to be back in Rome, as well as familiar. I am seeing some Roman friends and instituting a weekly (Sunday night) Music Party (PTA) As always, looking for the next gig and the next good Pizza... will write more soon. Send requests and spelling corrections to...
Easy Travels
-
February 3, 2010
Well, I skipped the month of January as far as the blog is concerned, but this is a "Euro-Blog", and I was in America... but now I'm back and I have discovered the secret to carefree air travel: It involves NOT sleeping for 24 to 48 hours before the flight, which more or less guarantees a restful sleep onboard. (It didn't hurt that I had 3 seats to myself the whole way) Now I have arrived back in Rome, where the temp is moderate with plenty O' rain. I hope to keep regular with the blog, but it is a responsibilty, and I don't want to write just for writing's sake, but hope to have something interesting to report! Feel free to send requests! Now I must sleep, and get on to the local time...stay tuned...
Happy New Year!

December 31, 2009
The last day of the year, and my favorite day of the month! Here is wishing you all a very healthy and happy 2008, with much love and much success in all your endeavors...I will continue the Euro-Blog in '08, so I hope you will check back! The NEXT Adam Lieb CD is...in progress, and my goal will be to make it the best one yet...Stay Tuned! Happy New Year! ...adam
are you staying tuned?

December 14, 2009
Looking forward to California in January, we have started to book a few local gigs there. Please check the Calendar page for these updates. More Italy dates will be forthcoming for February 2008, with the 'Roman Trio' (Guido Mannello and Matteo Pezzolet) as well as solo gigs in Napoli. Stay tuned...

December 12, 2009
i finally had to cheat on my hair dresser over here. and being on another continent didn't make it any easier...it has been too long, and it was too long...
his name: carmine (also 3 syllables) and he did ok...he didn't 'nip' like i am use to, and he cut it a bit shorter than i would have liked, but overall...a decent job done without a photo for a guide. and, since she (my real hairdresser) is surely not reading this, i may as well admit it here: i have always been secretly in love with my hairdresser...like george in 'shampoo', only she was george...craving more frequent appointments, i would drink protein powder by the carton, and sleep hanging by my ankles, hoping my hair would grow too long, faster...i would make 'touch up' appointments, anything to get in and see my beloved...and now? have i been spoiled by carmine? better than 'christian' perhaps, but never my beloved...
Blues in three
-
December 6, 2009
I had another dream about Steve Earle, but this one wasn't scary. We played a blues together. In six. So I said to him, "What a nice twist, a blues in six" and his response to me: "No it's not, it's a blues in three" Is there a deeper meaning to be gleaned from this, other than to not fall asleep to the TV? I think it was in D...Are you with me? It's not that tricky, it's just a blues in three.
mid week rehearsals
-
December 5, 2009
today was the last rehearsal of the trio for sunday's gig at flux. or was it the first?...or was it both? (i think both) anyway, we are ready. (or as ready as we're gonna be) the sound is good- a little jazzy- matteo has switched to contrbasso (upright) and I always like that...cold and sunny in rome, a good time to stay in and practice...read you later?
Thank You!

December 3, 2009
Thank You to all my friends who are "checking in" with me here and there while I am away! I REALLY do appreciate it, and it helps me remember, I have a place to come back to. (maybe no place to live, but a place to come back to, anyway) perhaps a bulk rate at the Mars...
See you all soon, in the New Year!

happy december everyone! (if you celebrate those types of things) the winds are kicking up, and pretty soon ol' 'babbo natale' will be climbing up those little rope ladders...or is it down?...and rome has more panetone than trader joe's on christmas eve...i am keeping busy trying to quietly merge continents on an anonymous street corner...next weekend i will play in napoli on saturday and roma on sunday (a first for me) keep those cards and letters of encouragement coming! stay tuned
it has been too long...
